چکیده

In this study, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency prioritized polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), associated pollution level, and health risks were assessed in a typical coal spontaneous combustion zone Rujigou mine Northwestern China. This study used gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) to detect chemical composition, spatial variation, distribution profiles, impact of combustion, PAHs. The entire area is divided into three zones according different features: (C-zone), living (L-zone), non-spontaneous (N-zone). results showed that: (1) highest concentrations measured C-zone, average PAHs N-zone, L-zone 13.28 ng·m−3, 9.56 7.67 respectively. (2) mainly composed ring five (3) EPA positive matrix factorization (PMF) analysis qualitative source apportionment that production was major atmospheric all zones, followed by combustion. (4) inhalation higher potential cancer risk for children than adults, C-zone much greater other zone. adverse impacts with PAH exposure indicates need mitigation measures control region.

Health Risk Assessment of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons: A Review

Accepted: 29/12/2014 Abstract Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) are ubiquitous environmental contaminants and found almost everywhere. Most of PAHs are formed during the incomplete combustion of organic matter such as wood, petroleum product, coal and tar. These chemicals are biologically active and pose a risk for human health because of their potentially toxicity such as carcinogenicity...

Risk Assessment of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Pasta Products Consumed in Nigeria

Background: The present study aimed to quantitatively determine polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in pastas consumed in Nigeria with the view of estimating the daily intake amount and the possible risks to consumers. Methods: Sixteen polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were determined in locally produced and imported pasta using a GC-Mass Spectrometer. Estimation of daily intake was done on...

Assessment of Sources and Health Risks of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the Street Dust of Dezful City

Street dust is mainly affected by the pollution of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). PAHs are a group of organic pollutants consisting of two or more benzene rings and are mainly produced during incomplete combustion. PAHs have attracted widespread attention due to their high carcinogenic and mutagenic properties in humans. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the sour...

Occupational exposure to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons during Diesel combustion.

Identification and determination of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in Diesel exhaust in the working environment and assessment of workers' occupational exposure to these suspected human carcinogens were the aim of this experimental investigation. The range of exposure factors calculated on the basis of 9 individual PAH concentrations determined in personal air samples shows that time-a...

Health risk assessment of heavy metals, BTEX and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the workplace in a secondary oil re-refining factory

The present study aimed to evaluate the health risk of heavy metals (iron, zinc, cadmium, arsenic, nickel, lead, and mercury), benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene (BTEX), and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the workplace in a secondary oil re-refining factory. In this descriptive, cross-sectional study, samples were collected and analyzed using the NIOSH 1501 method at eight sa...
